Arno Akkermans

Arno Akkermans is Professor of Private Law at Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam. He teaches liability law and dispute resolution and conducts research across the broad field of compensation law, with particular attention to the experiences and needs of individuals who are compelled to seek recourse through the legal system.

Through his research, Arno is particularly committed to supporting victims of road and workplace accidents, medical negligence, disasters and crime. He frequently collaborates in interdisciplinary research teams with social scientists, psychologists and medical professionals, aiming to improve the legal system's responsiveness to the real needs of citizens.

Arno is also the Chair of the Management Board for the Green Claim Foundation and a board member for the 'PFAS Vrij' claim initiated by the Green Claim Foundation.
