Alessia D'Amico

Alessia D'Amico is Assistant Professor at Utrecht University School of Law, where she teaches courses on market technologies, digitalisation and innovation in Europe. Previously, she lectured at Wageningen University & Research and worked as a legal researcher at the UK Competition and Markets Authority.

Her research and teaching focus on the intersection of EU competition law, consumer protection and data regulation, with a strong emphasis on the digital economy. She holds a PhD and an LL.M. in Comparative, European and International Law from the European University Institute, an LL.M. in Competition Law (with distinction) from King's College London, and an LL.B. (First Class Honours) from Queen Mary University of London.

Alessia is a multilingual scholar (Italian, German, English, Dutch and French) and has received several awards, including the Annual Reviewer Award from the European Journal of Risk Regulation, as well as scholarships from King's College London and the DAAD. She regularly publishes in leading journals on competition law, data regulation and digital platforms.

Recently Alessia was a speaker at the SCiDA conference (SCiDA Conference 2026: Shaping Competition in the Digital Age – Towards Best Practices), where the heads of the Dutch and German competition authorities were also present. Broadly speaking, Alessia talked about regulating digital platforms (and protecting users) across the EU. More specifically, Alessia addressed the relationship between the Digital Markets Act and national laws. Alessia has written a chapter on this topic that is about to be published.
